The Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation has stated that the responsibility for nominating candidates for the Maldives Sports Awards lies solely with the respective sports associations, and the Ministry maintains no involvement in this process.
Following significant public concern regarding the nominations for tonight’s award ceremony, it has been noted that several prominent figures from both the sports and media sectors were excluded. A Ministry official explained that certain associations failed to submit any nominations, while others submitted their entries after the established deadline.
The official further emphasized that the Ministry is unable to take action if associations do not provide names within the stipulated timeframe. Consequently, the Ministry is considering revising the current procedures to allow for self-nominations in the future to ensure a more inclusive process.
