Renowned local artisan Aminath Gumeira has presented a traditional Maldivian ‘Feyli’ (sarong), meticulously hand-woven by herself, to His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
The presentation took place during a special meeting held today at the President’s Office.
During the meeting, Gumeira shared insights into how she developed an interest in the craft of weaving. She detailed her journey of researching the historical techniques used by Maldivian ancestors and her ongoing efforts to revive and preserve this traditional art form, which is at risk of fading away.
Speaking at the meeting, President Dr. Muizzu reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to supporting individuals dedicated to promoting and revitalizing traditional Maldivian crafts and customs. He commended Gumeira for her exceptional work in preserving this cultural heritage and offered his encouragement for her future endeavors.
According to the President’s Office, the ‘Feyli’ presented today was crafted to replicate the traditional design commonly worn by Maldivians in 1932.
