Ibrahim Rameez (Ibe), Chairperson of Special Olympics Maldives, has stated that archiving sports achievements serves as additional motivation for athletes to pursue further success. In a special interview with PSM News, Ibrahim Rameez said that Special Olympics athletes from the Maldives have achieved numerous successes over the past four years, but many people might not be aware of these accomplishments. He mentioned that Maldives has won gold, silver, and bronze medals in Special Olympics, but without proper archiving, these achievements might go unnoticed.
Therefore, he stated that having this information available through archives would serve as additional encouragement for athletes to achieve further success. He added that with the start of archiving, many previously unknown sports achievements will come to light, and seeing photos related to past successes will be a great motivation for everyone to come together as one. Ibrahim Rameez emphasized that archiving sports achievements is very important and that it will also provide valuable lessons for athletes.
He also noted that the initiation of archiving sports achievements and the ceremony held to appreciate sports ministers was a very joyful beginning. He highlighted that seeing all ministers on one stage, setting aside different ideologies, as if they were one group, was a delightful sight.
He stated that sports are the most unifying factor and that seeing photos of sports achievements is also a source of happiness. Special Olympics Maldives is an association established to provide various therapies in the field of sports and to create opportunities for physical activities for people with intellectual disabilities.
Some of the achievements of Maldives in Special Olympics include Aishath Maniya Adam winning a gold medal in badminton at the 2023 Special Olympics World Games held in Berlin, Germany.
