
Minister of Tourism, Thariq Ibrahim, stated that allowing the sale of alcohol and pork in inhabited islands is not the government’s policy and will not be authorized under any circumstances. He clarified that local tourism will be advanced as “dry tourism,” emphasizing that alcohol and pork must not be available in inhabited islands within this framework. Minister Thariq also mentioned ongoing efforts to address concerns regarding the illicit import of alcohol to inhabited islands from safaris. It was further highlighted that Maldivian laws and regulations already prohibit the sale of alcohol and pork in inhabited islands.
