In his Presidential Address, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu highlighted the high priority his administration accords to the Islamic faith and the upkeep of mosques. Reflecting this commitment, 90 projects were successfully carried out over the past year. This includes the installation of air-conditioning systems in the main prayer halls and women’s sections of four mosques in Malé, all of which were brought into service in time for the holy month of Ramadan.
Furthermore, while MVR 19.4 million was spent on mosque renovations last year, a dedicated budget of MVR 15 million has been allocated for the current year. The government is also preparing to commence the construction of 10 new Islamic Centers and 17 mosques across various islands throughout the country within this year.
