
Five agreements have been signed between Maldives and Malaysia for cooperation in important areas. These agreements were signed by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during his ongoing official visit to Malaysia. Before signing the agreements, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim gave a joint statement.
In this statement, both leaders highlighted the cooperation between the two countries. They also revealed that they will work together on regional and international issues and explore further ways to increase engagement between the two countries. In this statement, both leaders noted that the two countries share the same view on the Palestine issue and declared that they will work together on it. The President also invited the Prime Minister to visit the Maldives.
Afterwards, the two leaders exchanged the joint statement.
Areas in which agreements were signed between Maldives-Malaysia:
1- Cooperation and collaboration in the field of sports.
On behalf of the Maldives, this agreement was signed by Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullah Khaleel. And on behalf of the Malaysian government, it was signed by their Minister of Youth and Sports, Hannah Yeoh.
2- Cooperation in the health sector.
On behalf of the Maldivian government, this agreement was signed by Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullah Khaleel. And on behalf of the Malaysian government, it was signed by Dr. Zulkefli Ahmad.
3- Cooperation in the tourism sector.
On behalf of the Maldivian government, this agreement was signed by the Maldivian Ambassador to Malaysia, Dr. Maryam Shabeena. And on behalf of the Malaysian government, it was signed by the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Khairul Firdaus.
4- Human resource development in the foreign affairs sector (training of diplomats)
On behalf of the Maldivian government, this agreement was signed by the Maldivian Ambassador to Malaysia, Dr. Maryam Shabeena. And on behalf of the Malaysian government, it was signed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamad Alamin.
Some state ministers also participated in the discussions between the two countries during the President’s visit. Ministers from both countries also participated in the ceremony of exchanging the agreements.
