The Jewish forces have agreed to stop the terrorist attacks they have been carrying out against Syrian military personnel operating in the Al-Suwayda region of Syria. Syrian troops were sent to Suwayda to stop the clashes and unrest between the Druze religious people and the Bedouins living in that area. The Jewish forces claim they started attacking Syrian troops in defense of the Druze. While many Syrian soldiers have been killed in the Jewish attacks, a total of more than 300 people lost their lives in the unrest that has been ongoing since July 13. This includes Muslim Bedouin lineage who were martyred. The Druze are people who live in Syria, Lebanon, and Israel.

The cessation of attacks between the government of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which rules Syria, and the Jews was announced by Thomas Barrak, the US Ambassador to Turkey to Turkey. “We call on the Druze, Bedouins, and Sunnis [Muslims] to lay down their arms and build a united Syria,” Barrak said. He said that the Jews agreed to stop the attacks on Syria after consultations held with the cooperation of Turkey and Jordan. From July 16, the Jews had been targeting attacks on the capital Damascus as well as Suwayda. Some of these attacks were aimed at buildings housing Syrian government offices. The Jews’ aim was to remove the troops sent to control the unrest between the Bedouins and the Druze from that area.

On July 18, the Jews said they would give the Syrian military a two-day opportunity to operate in Suwayda. The HTS government said it would send a special force from the Ministry of Interior to control the unrest and establish peace in Suwayda and the southern regions of Syria. On Friday, Jewish forces launched additional attacks targeting Syrian troops.

The Jewish forces have attacked Syria at the the request of the Druze people living in the Syrian Golan Heights territories that they have occupied. Many Druze serve in the Jewish forces. The Jews have said they will not allow the Syrian military to oversee the southern regions. The Jews have carried out these terrorist attacks, violating Syria’s sovereign independence, at a time when HTS government president Ahmad al-Shara is working to establish close ties with the United States, the Jews’ biggest supporter. The Syrian Network for Human Rights, a human rights advocacy organization, said that 321 people have died in the unrest in Suwayda. This includes Bedouin Muslims who were martyred in attacks by Druze fighters. The Syrian Ministry of Emergency Situations said that about 500 people were injured and needed treatment in the unrest.
