Bank of Maldives (BML) has officially signed two key agreements with Wasing Pay (globally recognized as WeChat Pay) and Visit Maldives Corporation. The primary objective of these agreements is to strengthen the digital payment solutions available in the Maldives and to significantly enhance the country’s tourism sector. Under these collaborations, efforts will be focused on marketing the Maldives, increasing tourist engagement, and expanding digital activities. A specific aim is to provide a seamless and convenient payment experience for Chinese tourists. Furthermore, BML and Wasing Pay are jointly exploring innovative payment methods, such as biometrics, for both Maldivian individuals and businesses.
In a related development, BML and Wasing Pay jointly conducted an informational session for resort representatives. This session focused on demonstrating how Chinese tourists, who constitute the largest segment of visitors to the Maldives, can utilize Wasing Pay for digital payments for goods and services, and how these services can enhance their overall experience. Mohamed Shareef, CEO and Managing Director of BML, expressed his great pleasure at the establishment of innovative and secure payment methods for tourists and businesses through these partnerships with Wasing Pay and Visit Maldives. He further highlighted that advanced technologies like biometrics would further enrich the payment experience for tourists. This, he noted, would improve services offered to international visitors and contribute significantly to the advancement of the tourism industry.
BML is equipped to process transactions from all major credit and debit card networks, including American Express, Visa, Mastercard, and UnionPay. Additionally, it supports transactions from commonly used digital wallets in the Maldives such as BML Pay, Wasing Pay, Alipay, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. Through BML’s Merchant Portal and the mPOS App, businesses are provided with comprehensive online payment solutions. These platforms enable real-time payment requests, allow for transaction monitoring, and assist in managing online store operations effectively.
