The Maldives national team, which achieved a proud victory in the South Asian Super Cup 2025, received a warm welcome at Velana International Airport. Upon the team’s arrival with the trophy, they were greeted by senior officials from the Ministry of Sports and members of the sports community. Commissioner of Sports Mohamed Tholal, FAM President Ahmed Thoriq, along with senior officials from FAM and the Ministry participated in welcoming the team at the airport. A special welcoming ceremony was also held at the airport for the national team. The Ministry of Sports has invited all citizens to come to Galolhu Stadium dressed in red to join this celebration.
The opportunity to take photos with the Super Cup trophy lifted by the Maldives after the big win against Sri Lanka, to take pictures with the national team players, and to spend a joyful moment with the team has been opened to all citizens. The President of the Republic congratulated the national team last night to mark their achievement. In a social media post praising the national team, the President said he is proud of the Maldivian national team’s success in the South Asian Super Cup and extended his congratulations and commendations.
The Maldives won the championship of the South Asian Super Cup 2025 by defeating Sri Lanka with an aggregate score of 4-1 over two legs. The Maldives won the first leg match with a score of 3-0. The second leg, played this evening, ended in a 1-1 draw.
