The Minister of Sports and Fitness, Abdulla Raafiu, has announced that a major project to establish fitness and recreation centers across the Maldives has commenced as part of the current administration’s efforts to develop sports facilities throughout the country. The Sports Minister made this statement in a special interview given to PSM News during his ongoing trip to South Miladhunmadulu Atoll with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. The Minister stated that this marks the beginning of a massive sports project. He revealed that the President will launch this project in many islands during this trip.
“A major project to establish fitness and recreation centers on every island, encompassing the entire Maldives for the well-being of all citizens, is currently underway. The commencement of this project is being marked in many islands during the President’s current trips. The ground-breaking projects and outdoor gym initiatives are being handed over to companies, land is being allocated, and arrangements are being made for foundation work to commence at these sites,” Minister Raafiu stated. Since assuming power, this government has been carrying out numerous sports projects. While entirely new sports projects are being initiated and progressing, this government has also begun work to complete many projects that were started previously but had stalled. This includes the renovation and repair of fields and courts, in addition to developing these facilities to the most modern standards.
Speaking to PSM News, the Minister said that practical work has begun on many such stalled projects, and these works are progressing at a rapid pace. The Minister also revealed that as these projects are completed, their completion is being marked. “When our government came into office, we began completing many large, unfinished projects, and we are marking their completion. Alongside this, beyond special projects, we are also making arrangements during this trip to engage with the public, resolve minor land issues in stalled areas, and address the needs of the public closely, ensuring these matters progress at a high speed,” the Sports Minister said.
Regarding the work accomplished in the sports sector during this term, the Minister recently stated that more than 50 sports projects have been completed and handed over to the public so far this year. The Minister also assured that this year will be the year in which the Ministry of Sports completes and hands over the highest number of projects.
