The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has stated that no flat assigned to any recipient has been reassigned to another party so far. The Ministry has refuted the claims made by the Maldivian Democratic Party regarding the work done to verify the list of recipients of 4000 flats being built under the Gedhoruverin (Homeowners) Scheme.
The Ministry said that the list announced on February 27, 2025, is a list issued after work was carried out to verify the information in the forms of those designated as flat recipients in the list published in the Government Gazette on November 15, 2023, following advice given by the Anti-Corruption Commission after their investigation into the forms related to those designated as flat recipients.
Furthermore, no new criteria for allocating flats have been established, and the process has been conducted according to the officially announced and published criteria, as well as the guidelines set by the previous government’s Gedhoruverin Committee for evaluating forms. Similarly, no flat assigned to any recipient has been reassigned to another party so far, and no flat assigned to any party will be reassigned to another without reviewing and deciding on the complaints submitted by those parties, according to the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure. If there have been any changes to the points awarded to any party, it would only be due to points being awarded contrary to the information provided by the applicant. This information is available to applicants through the portal.
Regarding periods of interrupted residence in Male’ as evident from documents, if official documents submitted could be considered to bridge the gap, such documents have been taken into account. Additionally, for those working at nearby resorts or on ships, if it was evident that their spouse/children or family had established their life in Male’, this has been considered as part of their period of residence in Male’. Similarly, even during periods where there was no evidence of the applicant working, if it was evident that their spouse was working in Male’, that period has been considered.
Among the documents provided by councils, those highlighted are from city and island councils other than Male’ City. Therefore, claims about documents issued by Male’ City Council during Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s tenure as Mayor are unfounded.
It is not government policy to allocate flats to married couples from the same scheme. Married couples will not receive two flats from this scheme. No one who was not on the list announced on November 15, 2023, has been included in this list. It has also been noted that if a married couple is included, they will not receive two separate flats.
The opportunity given to submit complaints after the release of the post-verification list is to correct any mistakes made by the Ministry in reviewing the information and documents submitted in the application forms during verification. Additional documents are not accepted because this is a final list released after providing an opportunity to submit documents during the complaint submission period following the release of the temporary list after evaluation.
The Ministry has stated that those who do not get the opportunity to receive these 4000 flats will not have to go through the trouble of reapplying for housing, and as per President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge to ensure housing opportunities for every Maldivian citizen in need of housing and homeownership, these individuals will also have housing opportunities during this term, according to the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure.
