President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the government has submitted a bill to the People’s Majlis aimed at establishing a legal framework to prevent further financial gains from assets acquired through serious criminal activities and to facilitate the forfeiture of such assets to the state. The President highlighted that this legislation is intended to address the current legal challenges faced in recovering illicitly obtained assets. Furthermore, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has also been working on drafting a “Model Asset Recovery Law” to establish a robust system for the recovery of misappropriated funds and property.
