Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that Iran will not engage in any direct negotiations with the United States until Washington demonstrates full compliance with its existing commitments. He further clarified that while direct communication remains suspended due to the U.S. violating interim agreements, indirect channels through intermediaries continue to be utilized.
Regarding regional maritime issues, Araghchi noted that a proposed agreement with Oman concerning the Strait of Hormuz is in its final stages. However, he emphasized that this agreement would not result in an immediate reopening of the strait; instead, it defines the specific protocols and routes to be followed once it is operational.
Furthermore, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has accused the United States of breaching prior memorandums of understanding and attempting to establish unilateral transport arrangements. The President reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to standing firm by its international agreements.
