
The main opposition party, MDP, has notified the Maldives Police Service of its decision to hold a protest titled ‘Dathivejje’ (meaning ‘we are in distress’) on Majeedhee Magu this coming Thursday night, citing the rising cost of living. Former Defense Minister Ameen Faisal stated that the party has no intention of relocating the protest to another venue and is currently awaiting a response from the police. Under current legislation, any public gathering in Male’ outside of four specifically designated areas requires prior police authorization.
In response, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed dismissed MDP’s claims regarding inflation as baseless. He emphasized that the current administration is focused on recovering the national economy from the financial damage incurred during the previous government’s tenure.
