The Sea-to-Air cargo service at Velana International Airport has achieved a significant expansion, with goods from Cambodia now being transshipped to European markets via the Maldives. Cambodia marks the fourth nation to utilize this strategic logistics model.
Launched in May this year as a collaborative initiative between Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) and Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), this service is projected to provide a substantial boost to the Maldivian economy. The operation has already demonstrated remarkable momentum, with 335 tons of cargo processed and dispatched within the last month alone.
With a high frequency of international airlines operating through the Maldives, the nation is uniquely positioned to serve as a premier logistics hub bridging Asia and Europe. In addition to Cambodia, this service is currently being utilized by exporters from India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.
