The official commencement of the project to establish a Bonded Zone, Bonded Warehouse, and Bulk Cargo Facility at Hithadhoo Commercial Port has been initiated. This facility will enable the duty-free storage of essential food commodities. The project, which was inaugurated by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, aligns with the strategic objectives outlined in the Presidential Address.
The introduction of these services is expected to significantly reduce cargo clearance costs, providing substantial benefits to businesses and the construction sector in the southern atolls. Furthermore, this initiative is poised to bolster the regional economy. Operated under Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), Hithadhoo Port serves as the primary logistical hub for the distribution of goods throughout the southern region.
