An agreement has been signed between the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) regarding the construction of sports complexes in Ukulhas and Rasdhoo of Alif Alif Atoll. The initiation of these two projects was entrusted to MACL during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to North Ari Atoll. The agreement for the Ukulhas and Rasdhoo Sports Complex projects was signed by the Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Abdullah Rafiu, and MACL’s Managing Director, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed.

These sports complexes are being established as part of the government’s initiatives to build a healthy society, develop sports infrastructure, and promote sports development. They are designed to accommodate multiple sports activities. Both islands have been designated by the government for the establishment of outdoor gyms, fitness and recreation centers, and various sports facilities. The development of indoor sports complexes across different regions of the country is a key objective of the government.

The government is working towards expanding sports throughout the Maldives and establishing international-standard facilities in the atolls as well. The aim is to pave the way for national-level elite athletes to emerge from the atolls. In addition to establishing sports complexes, the government states that special emphasis is being placed on creating handball, football, and other sports facilities in the islands.
