President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the projects underway to solve the space constraints at Himandhoo School will be completed and ready for use by the new academic year. He said this while speaking at a meeting with the people of Himandhoo. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said that fulfilling the hopes of the Himandhoo people is his responsibility, and the government is working to accomplish these tasks. He mentioned that important development projects are included for Himandhoo, and since the unfinished work at the school is the most pressing issue for the island, high priority is being given to completing that project. The President also said that the government is fulfilling all necessary requirements for the contractor to complete the project.
“The aim is to complete the project within 75 days or at most within 3 months. To start this year and begin teaching in the new academic year,” the President said. He also mentioned that this is what parents, teachers, and students want most. The construction of 12 classrooms and a multi-purpose hall at AA. Himandhoo School began in 2021. Although the project started, it had stalled during the previous administration. As a result, this has become the biggest concern for the public, parents, and students.
In his speech, the President said that with the new building of the health center opened in Himandhoo, there will be health improvements, and along with that, they have decided to start new services. He said that as it has been decided to provide health services with a laboratory at each island’s level, they have decided to upgrade the laboratory at Himandhoo Health Center. The President said that since people currently have to travel to other islands for some health services, next year a good quality laboratory will be established at Himandhoo Health Center, and human resources will also be provided.
Noting that a mosque construction project is currently underway in Himandhoo, the President said that work will be completed and made ready for use by December this year. He said that Himandhoo’s coastal erosion is a serious issue, and the rocks needed to solve the erosion problems of islands have now been brought. The President also noted that there are issues with the harbor entrance and said that both the erosion and harbor entrance issues will be resolved together. Emphasizing the importance given to establishing sports facilities, the President said that in Himandhoo too, a fitness and recreation center and an indoor gym will be established, in addition to providing additional facilities needed for the current field this year. He also mentioned that a handball court development project will be assigned this week.
The President said that in next month’s budget proposal to the Parliament, a two-year project to build handball courts in every island of the Maldives will be included. He said this would be a successful project and that priority is given to promoting this sport. The President said that in islands where local tourism is developing, instead of paving roads with tar, they want to establish a drainage system on sand roads. Therefore, road construction in Himandhoo will proceed as the residents wish, and along with that, practical work will begin this year based on the concept decided by the people.
Additionally, the President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu assured that priority is being given to land reclamation for Himandhoo, and that project will be included in next year’s budget and carried forward.
