Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has announced that 99% of vessels using Male’ North Harbor have been registered. Only registered vessels are allowed to dock at North Harbor.

MPL now manages the commercial port of Male’ and the North Harbor area, including the area from the Fish Market to the Local Market’s cross jetty.

Speaking on PSM News’ “Raajje Miadu” program, Ahmed Hamdullah Rasheed, MPL’s Assistant General Manager in charge of North Harbor operations, said that vessel registration can be done at any time. To facilitate this, MPL visits the area every morning and evening to provide information to fishing vessels.

MPL has been assisting in registering unregistered vessels. They provide information about services and required documents for registration. Hamdullah Rasheed said that registration can even be processed by sending vessel documents via Viber or WhatsApp.

“Registration is not time-limited. It can be done any day. By opening the service to all who need it, 99% of cargo and passenger vessels have completed registration. Some vessels remain unregistered due to incomplete documentation. Those owners are working on completing the process,” said Hamdullah Rasheed.

Hamdullah stated that MPL aims to run the harbor as a public service rather than a commercial port. They are working to make services easily accessible to the public.

With the expansion of Male’ North Harbor area, MPL is working on implementing changes and services for the newly added area. They plan to arrange facilities for fuel and ice supply in the North Harbor area with these changes.
