
The Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, has announced that 738 imams have been trained this year through the Imams Refreshment Program. In a post shared on social media, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed stated that while the Imams Refreshment Program has been conducted across various parts of the Maldives, the training program for imams in the Malé region has now concluded. The Minister highlighted that a total of 738 imams participated in the refreshment program this year.
The Minister also stated that next year, imams will be sent to Egypt for further training in collaboration with Al-Azhar University, and opportunities will also be facilitated for imams to travel to Morocco to study Arabic. The Minister noted that last year, over 100 imams were sent abroad for various opportunities from Saudi Arabia, Brunei, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
The Imams Refreshment Program is designed to provide additional training in the field of Imamate for permanent imams across the Maldives, divided into 11 regions. This program covers 9 subjects. These include essential knowledge for imams in the sciences of the Quran, Tajweed, Tafsir, Fiqh, Hadith, and Aqeedah. There are approximately 700 permanent imams in the Maldives. The Ministry of Islamic Affairs aims to complete the training of all permanent imams within this year.
