Customs has destroyed shark and ray meat that was seized while attempting to be illegally exported from the Maldives. These items were seized during a customs inspection following information received about prohibited items under the law controlling international trade in endangered species.
The inspection of the container resulted in the seizure of 582 kilograms of shark and ray meat, which has now been destroyed under customs supervision. The destruction took place last Sunday at the K. Thilafushi waste disposal area. Shark and ray products are prohibited from export under the Maldives General Fisheries Regulation.
