Three companies have been entrusted with constructing health service facilities in 18 islands. The work has been assigned to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Fenaka Corporation, and Road Development Corporation (RDC). In a ceremony held at the Ministry of Health, Fenaka Corporation was assigned to develop health facilities in 9 islands. MTCC was assigned to develop 5 health facilities, while RDC was assigned to develop 4 health facilities. These projects include the development of 2 hospitals, 4 health centers, and the upgrading of 12 health centers.
At the ceremony held to assign these projects to the companies, Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim said that the biggest challenge in strengthening and advancing the health system, especially in the atolls, is that health service facilities are old and in need of repair or expansion. “During President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s trips to the islands in the atolls, the request from the people is about the lack of space in health centers and how dilapidated these centers are. Or to convert them into hospitals. The President listens to these concerns. Policies have been shaped to find solutions to these concerns,” said Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim.

The Minister said that to solve the problems faced by health service facilities in the islands, work on 21 hospitals has already been assigned in 3 phases. He also mentioned that the construction of 19 health centers has been assigned, and the upgrading of 33 health centers has also been assigned. Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim also noted that very soon, they will announce to find contractors for an additional 21 projects.
