200 delegates from 89 Maldivian companies at ITB Berlin

The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has begun promoting the Maldives at ITB Berlin 2025, one of the world’s largest tourism trade fairs. A delegation of 200 representatives from 89 companies in the Maldivian tourism industry is participating in ITB Berlin 2025. The fair is being held at Messe Berlin from March 4-6. MMPRC’s participation aims to maintain the Maldives’ prominent position in global tourism and increase tourist arrivals from German-speaking countries.

MMPRC stated that the fair will strengthen connections with prominent tour operators, travel agents, and media from German-speaking markets and other countries. MMPRC highlighted that this is an important fair for strengthening networking and business relationships with tourism stakeholders worldwide and promoting Maldivian tourism products to B2B and B2C audiences.

A 504-square-meter double-deck stand has been designed to showcase the Maldives’ natural beauty and diverse tourism experiences at this year’s ITB Berlin. The stand is designed to facilitate meetings with media and travel trade representatives. It includes a VIP meeting room and three industry meeting areas, all featuring photo backdrops and a 360-degree photo booth. The stand will distribute leaflets containing important information about Maldives tourism and conduct media interviews. MMPRC stated that with a traditional corner showcasing Maldivian culture, this will be a stand that demonstrates the Maldives’ appeal.

MMPRC hosted a special seminar titled “The Next Chapter of Maldives Tourism – Berlin Edition” at the fair. The seminar highlighted the government and industry efforts to find new market segments, increase bookings, and promote sustainable development.

The one-on-one meetings during the fair will provide opportunities for participants to promote specific products and properties including liveaboard experiences, diving experiences, luxury resorts, guesthouses, and family holidays.

MMPRC’s campaigns targeting German-speaking countries continue to emphasize the Maldives’ sustainable tourism development policies, ongoing initiatives, and natural experiences available. Priority has been given to messaging in German. Additionally, MMPRC’s work with high-end brands in that market to effectively target the luxury segment, coupled with improved connectivity, is expected to increase tourist arrivals from Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.

Germany was the fourth largest source market for Maldives tourism in 2024, with 157,246 tourists. By February this year, 14,119 tourists from Germany have visited the Maldives.

Following the success of reaching over two million tourists for the first time in 2024, MMPRC’s goal is to maintain and increase total tourist arrivals beyond two million through strategic partnerships, PR activities, and campaigns with famous travel operators like TUI and DER Touristik.
